There are many archery clubs in California and archery is continuing to grow in popularity as a sport. Many of the archery clubs invite you to participate in their activities and continue to develop your skill as an archer. California archery clubs like the South Bay Archery Club are nonprofit organizations and exist for the sole purpose of furthering the sport of archery.
Lessons
California archery clubs offer lessons for the beginning archer. It is advisable to sign up for lessons if you are new to the sport of archery because proper technique is very important in archery. By taking lessons with an experienced instructor, new archers are able to avoid technique and form errors that may be hard to correct later. Some clubs include basic instruction with the cost of membership. Other clubs charge separately for lessons.
Tournaments
Tournaments are sponsored by individual California archery clubs. However, individuals from any club can participate in a tournament. There are several categories at tournaments that you can enter. Some of the events at a tournament include the longest shot, number of bull's-eyes, long bow accuracy and arrow speed. Awards or ribbons are commonly given to the winners of each category.
Camps
Day camps are offered by many California archery clubs to encourage young people to become involved in the sport of archery. These day camps teach young people the proper technique of shooting a bow and arrow. Skills are practiced and the participants are taught how to properly care for their bow. Overnight camps are also offered and are usually held at campgrounds where a target practice range can be set up. Participants of the camp will learn advanced archery techniques and methods. Some camps also offer campers the opportunity to try their skill at shooting a longbow.
Activities
California archery clubs offer their members the opportunity to practice their skills. Shooting ranges are set up at archery clubs so members can practice target shooting. Obstacle courses are set up for members who want to test their skill in hitting specified targets while being timed. Contests are held between members to see who can shoot the farthest or who has the greatest accuracy.
Membership
Archery clubs in California require an archer to become a member of the club in order to participate. The cost of membership varies, depending on the club. Some clubs only charge a membership fee to help cover the expense of grounds upkeep. Other clubs operate solely on a donation basis. Each club offers different activities for the members.
