Weight loss surgery, also known as bariatric surgery, is a procedure performed on obese individuals to reduce weight and limit the size of the stomach. Bariatric surgery is one of the most popular methods of weight loss. One trend report by the National Institutes of Health found a six-fold increase in the surgical procedure between 1990 and 2000. People join support groups to talk about how to diet, exercise and cope with life after surgery.
