Nutrisystem is a diet plan that involves the use of a home food delivery service program. Low calorie and portion-controlled entrees are provided for a fee by the diet maker. Cutsomers sign up for the diet through the company's website and then choose which meals and snacks sound the most appetizing. Each month, new shipments of diet foods arrive at the customer's home.

No Shopping or Preparation

One of the positive aspects of Nutrisystem is that you are not required to shop for and prepare low calorie meals. All of the work is already done for you. Customers simply need to heat up the single serving meals to prepare them.

Customizable Options

Nutrisystem offers customers the ability to pick and choose meals. As an alternative, you can have them send you their "Favorites" package with the most frequently ordered entrees. Sample meals include frosted cereal, chocolate muffins, pancake mix, tortilla soup, black beans and rice, pasta and marinara sauce and hearty beef stew. Plan options are also available for seniors, diabetics and vegetarians.

Expense

Following the Nutrisystem plan for the long term can be expensive. Plans cost a few hundred dollars each month and may not be an economical option for dieters looking to lose weight on a budget. Not only do you have to pay for food from Nutrisystem, you'll need to buy fresh produce to supplement the diet since none of the meals include fresh vegetables or fruit.

Nutrition

The pre-packaged meals go through processing, which makes them high in sodium. If your doctor is monitoring your salt intake, this may not be the best diet for you. The diet is low in calories, yet it may not be enough for individuals who are physically active, according to EveryDiet.org. Additionally, you will not find exercise recommendations when following the Nutrisystem plan.
