Overview

Eyes become irritated for a variety of reasons, including dust, smoke, lack of oxygen to the eye surface, eyelid abnormalities, allergies and inability to produce adequate lubrication. People with sensitive eyes may find it difficult to wear contact lenses for vision correction. The best solution for those with sensitive eyes are contact lenses specifically manufactured to work with easily irritated eyes.

Proclear Multifocus Lenses

Proclear Multifocal, which also come in a toric variety for those with astigmatism, target those with dry eyes. According to Today's Vision, the contact lenses utilize special materials that contains phosphorylcholine, or PC, a molecule found in human cell membranes. PC molecules attract and surround themselves with water, promoting an atmosphere where moist and comfortable contact lens wear is possible, cutting down on irritation due to sensitive eyes. Coopervision manufactures Proclear Multifocus lenses, and they are the only lens on the market approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for dry eyes.

Acuvue Oasys Lenses

Acuvue Oasys, manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, relies on HydraClear Plus technology to embue the contact lens with an increased volume of moisture-rich wetting agent. This results in a contact lens more suitable for sensitive eyes. According to AC Lens, the Acuvue Oasys lens makes it possible to wear lenses comfortably all day, regardless of environment. Wearers dispose of lenses every week and insert a fresh pair for maximum comfort and effectiveness.

Air Optix Night and Day Aqua Lenses

Air Optix Night and Day Aqua contact lenses utilize TriComfort Technology to promote comfortable lenses with all-day wearability, particularly for those with sensitive eyes. According to the Air Optix website, TriComfort Technology helps contact lenses resist protein deposits, retain moisture and draw oxygen through to the eye. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the Air Optix lens for both daily wear and continuous wear of up to 30 days. Ciba Vision manufactures these lenses.
