Review of Patagonia Backcountry Guide Pants

Once just a tiny company that made tools for mountain climbers in a tin shed, Patagonia has grown into a major manufacturer of gear and clothing for outdoor sports. Pantagonia's Backcountry Guide Pants are designed to keep you warm while you get active outdoors.

Description

Pantagonia Backcountry Guide Pants, available in both men's and women's versions, are soft-shell, water-and-wind-resistant recycled polyester pants designed for rugged, cold-weather sports including snow skiing and mountain climbing.

Features

Both men's and women's Backcountry Guide Pants come with three-point suspenders, which you may remove if you like, as well as a zippered fly--two-way on the men's pant; zippered, gusseted cuffs; water-resistant pockets on the front and thigh with an additional hip pocket on the men's version; and brushed interior.

Material

Patagonia Backcountry Guide Pants feature a material the company calls H2No. It is a breathable yet waterproof coating that is added to fabric. According to Patagonia, this treatment allows Patagonia pants to be two-and-one-half layers, making them just as protective but lighter weight than other sport pants available.

Cost and Availability

Patagonia Backcountry Guide Pants, both men's and women's versions, sell for $175 per pair, as of September 2010. They are available online at Patagonia's website as well as its stores, which are located in 16 states and the District of Columbia. You also may purchase the pants online via other retailers, including Backcountry.com and Amazon.com.
