Las Vegas offers visitors many things to do, including dining, gambling, shopping and shows. In addition, the city is located close enough to the Grand Canyon for a day trip to this magnificent attraction. There are several options available for day excursions to the Grand Canyon and it is worth visiting if you have the time to do so.

Helicopter Day Trips

Many companies offer helicopter tours of the Grand Canyon. Options include both leaving from Las Vegas and taking a helicopter for the entire trip, or taking an airplane to the Grand Canyon area and a helicopter specifically for the Canyon.

Helicopter tours can range in price but expect to pay at least $200 for an approximately three-hour tour. Many of these tours include a stop at Hoover Dam. In addition, some tours will take you deep into the Canyon, even landing on its floor.

Bus Trips

Bus trips to the Grand Canyon are also available from Las Vegas and usually go to the South Rim. The trip takes approximately five to six hours each way and the buses are usually luxury motor coaches. Most tours leave around 6:30 to 7:30 in the morning, with pick up and drop off service at most hotels. Some tours include meals on the bus or at the Grand Canyon in the price of the package.

Keep in mind that while a day bus trip to the Grand Canyon may be more economical, you will spend a majority of the trip traveling to and from your destination and not as much time exploring the attraction itself.

Driving Trips

Renting a car in Las Vegas and driving to the Grand Canyon may be the best option if you prefer the freedom of exploring on your own. The drive itself is scenic and you'll have the flexibility of where you'd like to go. Both the North Rim and South Rim offer spectacular views.

Be sure to leave Las Vegas early in the morning if you choose to drive to maximize your time at the Canyon. In addition, decide on which rim you'd like to visit before you go. Also, keep in mind that you will need to pay for admission to the park.

Combination Tours

Tour companies offer various packages that combine travel options to the Grand Canyon. For example, flying to the Grand Canyon by airplane and then taking a bus tour is an excellent way to maximize time at the site. In addition, this option is often less expensive than traveling by helicopter.

In addition, flying to the Canyon by airplane and then rafting on the Colorado River is an adventurous and fun way to view the scenery.

Grand Canyon Skywalk

One of the most popular areas of the Grand Canyon is the Skywalk. It is located at Grand Canyon West and offers visitors spectacular views while walking on a glass-bottomed cantilever bridge. When you choose to utilize a tour company for your Grand Canyon day trip, ask if the cost of the Skywalk is included, as it is a separate fee from the park entry.
