The healing gel of the aloe vera plant is used for healing cuts, burns and abrasions. The gel contained in its stalks, when applied to an injury, reduces inflammation and speeds healing. There are other health benefits that aloe vera gel can provide when taken internally. The gel can be purchased at health food and natural food stores. The "British Journal of General Practice" published the findings of 10 studies involving the benefits of aloe. It confirmed the healing benefits of aloe and that taking aloe vera internally as a juice helps reduce inflammation in the body. Aloe helps dilate capillaries and aids in cell growth, heals ulcers and soothes the digestive tract.

Detoxification

According to AloeVeraStudies.org, it is recommended to ingest 2 to 4 oz. of aloe vera juice a day to receive the detoxifying benefits of the aloe plant. This small amount jump starts the healing process for the body. Aloe vera is commonly used topically as a facial mask or body wrap because of its detoxification properties. When taken internally as a juice, it enters the bloodstream removing the toxins in the blood and cleanses the colon naturally, working on the inside in the same manner it works on the outside, states AloeVeraStudies.org.

Nutrition

The aloe plant is a super food in its own right. It contains all of the main recommended vitamins except vitamin D, and it is loaded with minerals, anti-microbials, enzymes and sugars.
