If you're looking for luxurious, world-class casinos, Biloxi certainly has its share. These casinos have all been rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina and are on a par with facilities in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. Going to Biloxi in an RV is an excellent way to enjoy both the casinos and the beach. There are several RV parks close to the casinos and a few campgrounds further away for tent camping.
Location
Biloxi is located on the Mississippi coast of the Gulf of Mexico in the middle of a beautiful stretch of beach that runs from Pascagoula to Gulfport. The casinos are located across Back Bay and can be easily reached by taking Interstate 110 from Interstate 10. There are several RV and tent camping parks in the area that are reasonably close to the casinos. These parks range from ones that provide the basic amenities to a few parks that are more upscale.
RV Parks
If you're just looking for a nice RV park with the basic amenities, the Cajun RV Park and the Southern Comfort Camping Resort will meet your needs. They both offer full hookups, concrete pads, swimming pool and laundry facilities. They have the added advantage of being located directly on the beach.
For more upscale facilities, try Majestic Oaks RV Resort or Fox's RV Park. These parks have a lot of shaded areas with palm trees and lush landscaping. True to its name, Majestic Oaks has numerous towering oak trees that create a secluded, woodsy environment. This resort also offers a fully stocked convenience store, clubhouse, gift shop and a swimming pool. While neither of these parks is located directly on the beach, they are only one block away.
Tent Camping
Biloxi has several campgrounds away from the city for tent camping. Bluff Creek Campgrounds is a quiet, 110-acre campground located in Vancleave, Mississippi. They have RV and tent sites, walking trails, a swimming pool and a river for fishing.
For primitive camping, try the Shephard State Park with 450 acres surrounding the Pascagoula River in Gautier, Mississippi. The park has 28 tent camping sites, grills, fire pits, picnic tables, bicycling trails and a boat launch with fishing pier.
Located in Kiln, Mississippi, McLeod Park sits on 328 acres around the Jourdan River. The park has tent camping in addition to RV sites. There are nature trails, boat ramps and fishing piers.
Casinos
Biloxi has 11 casinos and more on the way. They offer a huge number of slot machines, poker rooms, roulette and blackjack, and always have the latest trends in new games.
If you need relaxation, many contain luxurious spas and upscale fine dining restaurants. Most of the casinos also have family entertainment areas away from the gambling floors. Here, the kids can be entertained with pinball machines and shooter games.
The Beau Rivage, Hard Rock Casino & Resort and Treasure Bay are the casinos located closest to the RV parks. However, all of the casinos run free shuttles to the parks on the island, but not to the tent campgrounds located further away on the mainland.
Dining
Biloxi is famous for its Southern cooking and Cajun dishes. While the casinos offer the best in elegant dining, there are innumerable family-owned restaurants whose signature dishes are usually recipes inherited from previous generations. You can dine on all varieties of seafood, such as spaghetti shrimp and pressed Po'boys, and everyone has their own special recipe for gumbo. The seafood is always fresh since it is usually caught the same day.
If you prefer ethnic foods, Biloxi has a wide assortment of Chinese, Vietnamese and European choices. You can literally find just about any type of restaurant that you want.
Other Activities
When you want to get away from the frenzy of the casinos, Biloxi has a broad range of activities for the entire family. The beach, of course, is a major attraction. The Gulf of Mexico is renown for its soft, pure white sand. The beaches are wide and very rarely crowded.
Deep-sea sport fishing is available from the numerous companies that offer half-day or full-day charters. Their experienced captains can find the best spots for big-game fish or the more common grouper and snapper. For something different, these companies also offer fly-fishing, sunset cruises and island tours.
Biloxi has around 20 golf courses that will challenge the skills of any golfer. For a stiffer challenge, try the course at the IP Casino, which was designed by Jerry Pate, a U.S. Open champion.
