Located in the middle of the Clear Creek Nature Preserve in Sugar Grove, Ohio, Lake Ramona makes up one of the two waterways in Clear Creek that offer fishing. While the preserve offers recreation opportunities of all kinds, Lake Ramona draws fishermen looking for a quiet spot to cast a line from shore or on one of the two docks.

Clear Creek Metro Park

Covering 5,260 acres, Clear Creek Metro Park features multiple geographical elements including Clear Creek, which draws trout fishermen, the 5,000-acre nature preserve and Lake Ramona, a small fishing lake. Hundreds of species of wildlife and birds, and over 1,000 different kinds of plants among the forest backdrop complete the scene and offer visitors a picturesque recreational experience. Open all year, the park does not charge an entrance fee and provides many nature programs for free.

Lake Ramona

Lake Ramona covers only five acres, making it just large enough for two docks that offer the best locations for fishing on the lake. The park opens at 6:30 a.m. and closes each night at sundown, giving anglers plenty of time to make use of the lake. Access the lake by following a hiking trail that originates at the Hambleton Day Use Picnic Area.

The Catch

The lake contains bass, channel catfish and bluegill. Larger than the other fish, channel catfish can get up to 20 inches long and between 2 and 10 lb., and react well to live bait. Find largemouth bass in just about every lake in Ohio, including Lake Ramona. These fish like to take cover, so look for areas where they can hide and bring along lures that look like baitfish.

Accommodations

Clear Creek Metro Park does not offer camping accommodations, but camping options are available nearby at Hocking Hills State Park for anglers who want to extend their stay. Creekside Meadows Picnic Area, Fern Picnic Area and Hambledon Day Use Area make up the three picnic area in the park. The Fern and Creekside areas include grills and portable toilets. Hambleton features the Ironwood and Valleyview picnic areas with picnic tables, grills, trailheads and flush toilets.
