An unorganized territory in St. Louis County, Minnesota, Sand Lake is a top multi-species fishing lake with a maximum depth of 70 feet. Connected to many other lakes including the Bowstring Lake, Little Sand Lake and Portage Lake, the territory enjoys the shade of the Chippewa National Forest, which features abundant wildlife.

Fishing
With direct access to more than 6,000 acres of water and a maximum depth of 70 feet, Sand Lake is among the largest walleye fishery in Minnesota. It also offers fishing opportunities for other types of fish such as Northern pike, largemouth bass, crappie and panfish. Fishing regulations prohibit the use of whole or parts of game fish, gold fish or carp as bait, and fishing for any species during its closed season is illegal. Also any medium-sized fish or fish that will not be utilized immediately must be returned to the water alive.
Hunting
If hunting is your pleasure, a stay at a Sand Lake resort offers you access to Itasca County and Chippewa National Forest where you will find white-tailed deer and black bears. Other game includes small game such as ruffed grouse and waterfowl. If you are after "big game," keep in mind that there is a quota of one black bear per person in Sand Lake. Also, if you hunt big game, you must obtain a license and a hunter education certificate. Children younger than 12 years old may hunt with you or a legal guardian without a license.
