Miami is a golf-lover's dream destination and the city abounds in spectacular golf courses. PGA golf courses can be found all over Miami, from the renowned Blue Monster to lovely but challenging courses located in suburban areas. Besides golf, Miami offers a wide array of opportunities for healthy activities, from white sand beaches to deep sea fishing, snorkeling and Everglades expeditions.
Resort Golf
The Blue Monster Golf Course is renowned for hosting several PGA tournaments and is one of five courses located at the Doral resort and spa. The courses have hosted PGA tournaments from 1962 through 2006. In 2009, the Blue Monster joined the Tournament Players Club network. The Blue Monster features 7,296 yards of play for a par of 72. The most famous hole is the 18th, with its fountains and water guarding a sloping green. The Blue Monster is located at the Doral Resort and Spa in Miami.
Miccosukee Tribe
Located in south Miami, the Miccosukee tribe offers a full-service resort and the Miccosukee Golf and Country Club. The course features 27 holes of golf with 6,700 yards for a par of 72. The course hosts the Miccosukee Championship, which has attracted such players as Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. After a day on the links, the Miccosukee resort has a spa, a heated indoor swimming pool and a state-of-the art fitness facility. A short 30-minute drive from the resort is the Miccosukee Indian Village--a living museum that celebrates the Miccosukee heritage.
Briar Bay
Briar Bay, a suburb of Miami, features the Briar Bay Golf Course, an executive 9-hole course with 3,996 yards of play for a par of 31. Located in a quiet, residential area, the course features challenging play with water hazards. After a round of golf, take a short ride to the Deering Estate and embark on the Chicken Key canoe tour. Canoe the one mile to Chicken Key and observe ancient mangroves, manatees and exotic birds.
Kendall
Located in the south Miami suburb of Kendall, the Killian Greens Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72 course with 6,449 yards of play. The course offers challenging play for all levels of golfers with narrow fairways and water hazards and bunkers guarding the tees. The course hosts several tournaments, including the annual Rally for the Cure, which benefits breast cancer research and is open to all players.
Kendale
Located in the Miami suburb of Kendale, the Calusa Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72 course with 7,182 yards of play. The course has wide, tree-lined fairways with water hazards on holes 13, 14 and 15. Beginners will find the course deceptively challenging and more advanced players will find the course to be a great tune-up.
