Located in northeast Texas is Atlanta, a major destination for outdoor enthusiasts thanks to its proximity to Lake O' the Pines, Caddo Lake and Atlanta State Park. Visitors to Atlanta who want to experience the region's nature firsthand can camp in a number of densely treed campgrounds located in or near the city.
Weather
Atlanta offers sunny, warm weather for much of the year, allowing visitors to enjoy outdoor recreation almost year-round. Summers are hot and humid, with daytime temperatures in the 80s and 90s. Winters are fairly short and mild and rarely receive more than an inch or two of snow. Daytime highs in the winter tend to fluctuate in the 50s and 60s, though they may drop to the 40s or lower at night. Rainfall is moderate, with spring being the rainiest season.
Atlanta Camping
Atlanta contains the Amazing Grace Acres, a campground that allows both RV and tent camping. The campground is lush and green, with plenty of grassy space and tall trees. Campers have access to restrooms, hot showers and laundry facilities, and guests may bring pets so long as they're kept on a leash. Amazing Grace Acres offers daily, weekly and monthly rates.
State Park Camping
Atlanta State Park offers numerous campsites, all of which contain a picnic table, a fire pit with a grill and water. Guests have access to facilities such as restrooms, showers and a laundry room. The park provides a playground for kids as well as volleyball and basketball courts and horseshoes. Campers can also stay at Caddo Lake Park, which offers campsites, cabins and a boat launching ramp. Canoe rentals are available at both parks.
Nearby Campgrounds
Campers can try several campgrounds located near Atlanta. Texarkana offers both the Rocky Point Campground and the Texarkana KOA. The Rocky Point Campground is situated north of the Wright Patman Dam in a mixed woods forest. Sites are spacious and private, and many are heavily shaded by trees. Guests have access to restrooms and hot showers. The Texarkana KOA is located near the interstate for easy access to downtown attractions. Sites are spacious, and most are level. Amenities include an on-site convenience store, bathhouses and a pool.
Activities
Visitors to Atlanta State Park can indulge in activities such as fishing, biking and hiking. The 20,300-acre lake offers 170 miles of shoreline, with a designated swimming beach and a canoe rental store. Visitors can fish for species such as crappie, white bass, sunfish and three different types of catfish. The park offers several multiuse trails open to hikers and bikers. Those staying in nearby Texarkana can take the leisurely Texarkana KOA Wildscape Trail, a 20-minute trail that passes by a creek, pond and woods.
