Most of us probably take the task of tying shoelaces for granted. However, you should pay more attention when you tie baseball shoes or other athletic footwear. When you lace and tie baseball shoes properly, they will give your feet and ankles the support the shoes were designed to provide. It's a good idea to check your laces occasionally during the game to make sure they don't come untied.
Step 1
Lace up your baseball shoes. Thread the shoelace through the first pair of eyelets near the toe, then pull the ends of the shoelace taut and make sure they are of equal length. Finish lacing the shoe using a criss-cross pattern.
Step 2
Loosen the shoelaces to make it easier to put the shoe on and prevent strain on the eyelets. Insert your feet into the shoes and adjust your socks so the shoes fit comfortably.
Step 3
Tighten the laces one pair of eyelets at a time, starting with the pair closest to your toe. Grasp the lace on each side where it emerges from the eyelet and pull it taut. If your baseball shoes have a cover flap at the top, pull it aside and thread the lace ends through the final eyelets.
Step 4
Tie the shoelace knot, then tie the loops of the knot again to form a second knot. This is a precaution that makes it unlikely the shoelace will come untied during play. Ensure that the shoelace ends do not dangle close to the ground.
Tips and Warnings
- Inspect your shoelaces periodically for signs of wear. A worn lace can break, so don't hesitate to replace worn or frayed laces promptly.
