What To Look For

Electric razors with a rotary-style blade are more convenient than their foil counterparts due to the quiet design and amount of time that the blade can trim before it needs to be replaced. However, since foil razors use a oscillating mechanism, the blade may cut the hair in a cleaner shave.

Common Pitfalls

Electric-style shavers can produce razor bumps on the face when the razor is used in the wrong direction than recommended for the razor (rotary-style blades must be used in a circular direction). The razor must be cleaned after each use and, due to its non-disposable design, the razor cannot be simply placed in water to soak away clipped hairs.

Where To Buy

Norelco razors are best purchased in the men's grooming section of major department stores such as Macy's, in Walmart super stores or in stores that provide beauty grooming sections for men and women. Though the Norelco brand of shavers is available for anyone (male or female), most razors are designed for men specifically while one design is geared for women as well.

Cost

The Norelco Nivea razor for males is priced at $65 and gives a close shave for its low price. Though this razor can take up to eight full hours to completely charge, the design is geared to shave with or without lotions or shaving creams. The Arcitec shaver by Norelco, although more expensive at $180, has a rotary-style blade, a quieter sound than most other razors and blades that pivot on separate angles to give a closer shave, according to Consumer Search.
