Salt contains two key factors that every living organism needs at some level, chloride and sodium. Processed, or refined salt, also contains iodine, while unrefined salt, such as sea salt, may have other electrolytes the body needs. Most individuals will get the proper minerals from their diet. There are few reasons to consider drinking warm saltwater to absorb the mineral components. Some may use this salt to replace electrolytes lost from extreme exercise or illness. Others might consider a saltwater cleansing procedure to rid the body of waste and toxins. Regardless of the reason, the preparation of the salt solution is not difficult.
Step 1
Heat about a qt. of water in a microwave or on the stove. There is no set temperature for the water. The hotter the water is the more readily the salt will dissolve. Base the temperature on personal taste. Some may prefer the water hot, while other will want it closer to room temperature.
Step 2
Fill a quart container with the warm water. If you will be drinking the water over a long period of time, use a container with a lid. It may be better to try to drink the water within one or two hours for cleansing.
Step 3
Add 2 tsp. of unrefined salt to the water. Table salt will also work, but unrefined salt has more minerals and electrolytes. Look for sea salt, Celtic salt or mineral salt. Any organic salt still has all the original elements, such as potassium and magnesium.
Step 4
Stir the water with a large spoon or put a cap on the container and shake it. It is important that the salt dissolve thoroughly, otherwise it will sit on the bottom you will not get the benefits.
Step 5
Drink the salt over the course of the day. For cleansing, drink the liquid quickly and on an empty stomach. To replenish electrolytes lost through sweat, sip the water throughout the exercise period or drink it after a hard session.
