Stop Being Polite

An article in "Fitness Magazine" reports that you should pass on the extra helping, even when its mom's signature dish. The extra helping could be packing more calories than you think. Instead "Fitness Magazine" suggests explaining you are watching your weight. If hosts insist you have seconds, request a second helping of a vegetable dish rather than the higher calorie main dish.

Waste Food

As a child leaving food on your plate was considered wasteful. Better to waste food than to add to your waistline. Go ahead and throw away food left on your plate. "Fitness Magazine" suggests cooking smaller portions for your family to avoid wasting extra food.

Stretch Out Exercise

Count Colors Not Calories

Claudia Gonzalez an American Dietetic Association spokesperson advises you to focus more on what you are eating than the calories it contains. Gomez claims that she tries to include three healthy colors to each meal. An example of three healthy colors are leafy greens, yellow peppers and red tomatoes.

Make Healthy Substitutions

Use Sticky Notes

"Good Housekeeping" says that sometimes you can lose all sense of reality and rationalize your way into eating something that is not good for you. You can avoid this by putting reminders on sticky notes and placing them around the house. For example, by placing a sticky note on the refrigerator, you remind yourself not to overindulge and will be less likely to reach for unhealthy snacks.
