According to Jenny Craig's official website, the program works on three areas: body, mind and food. While the ultimate goal of the program is for you to change the way you eat so you can lose weight, Jenny Craig also teaches you to take care of your body and change the way you think about food, so you can understand what made you overeat in the first place and to help you maintain the weight loss.
Step 1
Pick what program you want to follow. Jenny Craig offers a face-to-face counseling program and an at-home plan. The at-home plan is divided into two options: Jenny Direct, which includes daily meal delivery, and Jenny At Home, in which you receive support via phone and email. What program you choose depends on your budget and location, as you might not have a Jenny Craig office near you.
Step 2
Attend or schedule a phone meeting with your counselor. The counselor will help you set up your personalized meal and fitness plan. You will also need to schedule food pickups or delivery or locate a retailer near you. You need to do this before you commit to the plan, as the whole Jenny Craig plan is based on specifically designed foods.
Step 3
Eat the prepackaged foods as directed. Jenny Craig foods include soups, bars, shakes and frozen foods, such as turkey burgers, lasagna and other dishes. You're free to choose the foods you prefer as long as you stay within the recommended calorie count. If you're diabetic, vegetarian or have other special diet requirements, you can also choose specific foods to fit your diet.
Step 4
Stock up on fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains. The Jenny Craig program is a combination of packaged foods and homemade dishes. What and how much you eat will depend on your specific meal plan, but fresh fruits and low-fat dairy products are common recommendations.
Step 5
Follow the exercise plan provided. The plan will be personalized according to your current health and fitness level, lifestyle and goals. In general, Jenny Craig recommends exercising five days a week for a minimum of 30 minutes. Being more active in everyday life is also important.
