Losing weight fast can be a difficult process, but it shouldn't be expensive. In fact, it should save you money, due to the decrease in your food budget. Luckily, losing weight doesn't have to cost you a thing. To streamline your weight loss process free of charge, familiarize yourself with these tips.

Eat Meat (or Protein Alternatives)

While you might not think of hamburgers and pork chops as typical diet food, the high density of protein found in these dishes can be quite beneficial in terms of losing weight. First, protein is extremely calorie-light, and contains only four calories per gram as compared to carbohydrates and fat, both of which contain nine calories per gram each. This means that a serving of protein will have fewer calories than its carbohydrate- or fat-based equivalent. Second, a 2004 study published in the International Journal of Obesity found that protein exerts an appetite-suppressing effect on individuals who are participating in a low-calorie diet.

Be Wary of Fruit

Fruit is a crucial part of any balanced diet, since different fruits contain a variety of essential vitamins and minerals. This fact is often misconstrued to mean that fruit should play an overwhelming role in a diet designed to promote weight loss. In fact, despite its positive nutritional qualities, fruit can be just as bad as synthetic sweets in preventing fat loss, since it contains significant amounts of sugar in the form of fructose. Further, some fruits are worse than others and should be avoided by dieters at all costs. Watermelon, for instance, has a higher glycemic index than even pure sugar. Moreover, a full watermelon contains 1355 calories, and more than an entire day's worth of sugar.

Cheat on your Diet

One of the most common mistakes made by dieters is to treat a diet as a withdrawal from a food addiction. While this analogy may be partially apt, one logical extension is that one can never break the rules without jeopardizing the entire diet process. In reality, the opposite is true; by sticking to a significantly reduced caloric intake for an extended period of time, you'll cause your body to lower your metabolism in reaction. This is an evolutionary mechanism designed to prevent starvation. However, you can stop this process from occurring by allowing yourself one day per week during which you consume as many or more calories than you did prior to beginning your diet. This will help to maintain your metabolism, leading to a more consistent rate of weight loss.
