Upper lip hair starts to grow during adolescence in males. It can come in dark or light, and it can grow at a slow or fast pace, depending on the individual. When it comes to women, this hair can appear with age. It can be thin and hardly noticeable, or it can be darker and more prominent. In either case, there are multiple ways this hair can be removed.
Step 1
Remove it the old-fashioned way. Use a new razor blade and shaving cream that has lanolin in it for sensitive skin. Wet your upper lip, apply shaving cream and run the razor down your lip in smooth strokes. Wash your lip with warm water, and apply skin cream to keep your lip moisturized.
Step 2
Use tweezers to pull the hair out. This can be effective if you do not have much hair on your lip, or if you have some free time. Grab the hairs as close to the root as possible, and pull them straight out. Do not yank them, as this can cause them to break off.
Step 3
Use a depilatory cream. Depilatory creams have an active chemical called potassium thioglycolate. This breaks down the protein found in hair called keratin, which gives it strength. When this gets applied to the skin, it absorbs into the follicle and breaks down the hair, which falls out of the follicle. To use this on the lip, moisten your lip with a damp washcloth. Apply the cream and let it sit as long as the manufacturer recommends. Wipe it off with the washcloth, and wash your lip with warm water.
Step 4
Use wax. Waxing is a process in which hot wax gets applied to the skin and starts to harden. A strong piece of material is pressed into the wax and is ripped off in a fast motion, pulling the hair with it. You can get this done in a spa or salon, or you can get a kit for home use.
Step 5
Get electrolysis. Electrolysis is a procedure in which a small needle gets inserted into hair follicles. An electrical current is sent to the tip, and the hair dies and falls out. The results of electrolysis can be permanent.
Step 6
Get laser treatment. Laser treatment is done in a professional facility. A beam of high-energy light is shined down onto the skin of the upper lip. It targets the melanin, which gives the hair its color. When the laser beam hits the follicles, it kills the hairs, and they fall out.
