Sevierville, Tennessee is an outdoor recreation destination in the summer season, with thousands of acres of wilderness for guests to hike, bike, boat, camp and fish. Douglas Lake attracts 1.7 million visitors each year, according to DouglasLake Info.com. The lake sits in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, home to the Smoky Mountain National Park.

Douglas Lake Campgrounds

Douglas Lake sits just to the northeast of Sevierville and offers visitors picturesque lakeside camping. Mountain Cove RV Park sits just on the western shore of Douglas Lake, across the street from Mountain Cove Marina, with its amenities and rentals. Mountain Cove accommodates RVs up to 60 feet; all sites come with full-service hookups. Lakeview sites are available. The Douglas Dam Tailwater Campground in Sevierville has 62 sites with access for the disabled, and full-service hookups.

Smoky Mountain Campgrounds

Ripplin' Waters Campground is the friendliest campground in the Smokies, according to VisitSevierville.com. It is in Sevierville nestled against Smoky Mountains National Park. Its 156 sites have full hookups. Free Wi-Fi is available. River Plantation RV Park, also in Sevierville, offers a view of the mountains. Sites include 30- and 50-amp service, pull-through access availability, and riverfront camping.

Amenities

Mountain Cove Resort features bath facilities, boat launch, laundry facilities and a convenience store. Its marina offers pontoon rentals, Johnson motors and life jacket rentals. The Douglas Dam Tailwater Campground has restrooms with heated showers, a playground, a boat ramp, fishing pier, tackle shop and wildlife viewing area. A group pavilion is available. Rippling Waters has laundry facilities, bath houses, a swimming pool, a playground and a convenience store; church services are held. Plantation RV Park has a playground, basketball court, bath houses, laundry facilities, an arcade and golf cart rentals.

Recreation

Sevierville attracts nature lovers and outdoor adventure-seekers of all types. Hiking, fishing, hunting, ATVs, rafting, canoeing and horseback riding are available. Adventure Park in Five Oaks, three miles south of Sevierville, offers more extreme options such as zip line rides and canopy tours. Appalachian Outdoors, another adventure host 30 miles east of Sevierville, features whitewater rafting trips, rock climbing excursions, zip lines, a petting zoo, cave tours and a paintball course.

Climate

Sevierville has four distinct seasons. Camping season is between May and October when the weather is warm enough. In July, the highs average in the high 80s. October is pleasant in Sevierville, with daily highs in the 70s and very little precipitation. May gets the most rainfall, an average of four to five inches. October has an average of just 2.5 inches. Winters in Sevierville are cold: Daily highs in December average in the 40s, and lows are well below freezing.
