Skipping breakfast might seem a good idea when you're trying to lose weight. But of all the meals to miss, breakfast is the last you should consider. Skipping breakfast can often lead people to crave carbohydrates and less-healthy snacks. In fact, the Science Daily website noted a 2008 study that found that individuals who ate breakfasts high in carbohydrates and protein were more successful at losing weight, and keeping it off, than those who ate a low-carb breakfast.

Hard-Boiled Eggs

A hard-boiled egg is the kind of lean protein source that will keep you filled up for a long time. If you want to cut down on the cholesterol, you can always just eat the egg white. To mix up your egg options, try an omelet with fat-free cheese, spinach and tomatoes.

Sweetened Brown Rice

In an excerpt from the 2005 book "Stealth Health," "Reader's Digest" magazine suggests sweetened brown rice as a tasty, healthy alternative to traditional breakfast cereals. Brown rice provides the nutritional benefits of whole grains and fiber that will keep you filled up for a long time. The article suggests cooking the rice the night before, then adding a little honey and chopped-up apple the next morning.

Tuna on Toast

Getting healthy proteins into your breakfasts can be a little tricky, unless you're willing to, as the "Reader's Digest" article suggests, "have lunch with breakfast." Instead of cream cheese or butter on toast, try a little tuna mixed with low-fat mayonnaise on your toast.

Low-fat Dairy

Whenever possible, opt for fat-free dairy options like skim milk. But if fat-free just doesn't taste right to you, then include low-fat dairy foods, such as low-fat yogurt and cheese. You can always make plain low-fat yogurt more appealing by mixing in some vitamin-packed berries.
