In 2009, Atlanta became America's ninth largest metro area, as reported in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Atlanta is a welcoming city that offers countless affordable activities for visiting teenagers. Sprawling over great distances, Atlanta's public parks and popular neighborhoods often attract a higher density and variety of fitness- and health-oriented activities. Plan to be flexible and diverse in your interests and look for activities in and around public parks for the best experiences in Atlanta.

Specialty Tours

Atlanta contains a number of small neighborhoods with their own collection of shops, restaurants and attractions where locals spend the day. Atlanta lacks a large selection of sightseeing tours like the ones found in other large cities because landmarks are scattered over long distances. However, biking and walking tours exist and cater toward all interests from history to ghost tours. Tours can uncover nearby places worth revisiting later that day and are a great way to get out and enjoy the Atlanta weather.

Chastain Park

The largest park in Atlanta with more than 260 acres, Chastain Park contains enough attractions to keep visiting teens occupied all day. Tee off at Atlanta's top-rated public golf course or take a riding lesson at the Chastain Horse Park. You'll find baseball fields, tennis courts and swimming facilities all open to the public and alive with summer camps and other nonprofit programs.

Downtown Atlanta

Downtown Atlanta offers a high density of public parks and national parks in which to walk or jog. Take a long walk in Historic Oakland Cemetery surrounded some of Atlanta's most prominent historical figures and huge, ornate mausoleums. Then head over to Centennial Olympic Park to cool off in the fountain of rings in the summer and ice skate in the winter.

Piedmont Park

Atlanta's young people love Piedmont Park. This is a popular destination for people to walk, bring pets, exercise, sunbathe and socialize. Here, visiting teens can tap into Atlanta's vibrant social life. Piedmont Park hosts multiple festivals throughout the year and is within walking distance of the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

Stone Mountain Trail

Founded in 1991 with the vision of giving Atlanta locals more places to enjoy nature and ride their bicycles within the city limits, PATH greenway trails can be accessed in multiple places in Atlanta. Dare to walk or bike the longest of these trails, Stone Mountain Trail, and you will have the opportunity to see two of Atlanta's best attractions: The Martin Luther King Center and Stone Mountain Park. The Stone Mountain Trail begins downtown and travels 17 miles to Stone Mountain Park where several hiking trails wind around the mountain.
