Candida albicans is a yeast microorganism that generally lives in the intestinal tract, sharing space in your bowel with a variety of other microorganisms called probiotics. If an overgrowth of Candida albicans begins in the digestive system, it gradually spreads to other parts of the body, causing yeast infections and a host of other ailments, says the National Candida Center. A candida diet is a diet regimen that eliminates sugar within carbohydrate-rich foods to eliminate the overgrowth of candida in the gut.
Step 1
Select raw, natural and sugar-free foods when preparing for the Candida Diet. Candida thrive on simple sugars found in starch, fruits and any kind of baked good. Prepare meals that utilize the abundance of color in the vegetable food group, from spinach to sweet potatoes, tomatoes to zucchini. Use olive oil to saute the vegetables and add omega-3 fatty acids to your diet.
Step 2
Prepare snacks that are in their raw state and without sugars. Celery sticks with natural peanut or almond butter, or homemade hummus made with garbanzo beans, olive oil, pine nuts and spices with carrots. Enjoy these healthy snacks throughout the day.
Step 3
Ferment vegetables by submerging them in water, then adding 3 tbsp. of salt per 5 lbs. of vegetables. More salt will slow the fermentation process, while less (or none) will speed it up. Specially designed Harsch crocks eliminate oxygen from entering the mixture, creating an oxygen-free airspace around the fermented items .Chop up the vegetables before submerging them to create more surface area for fermentation.
Step 4
Sprout your grains, nuts and seeds in a sprouting jar after soaking them overnight. Sprouting increases the nutritional value of the foods. The sprouts not only contain protein, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins A and B, but also are rich in vitamin C, suggests Dr. Donna Gates, author of the "The Body Ecology Diet: Recovering Your Health and Rebuilding Your Immunity."
