The Master Cleanse is a very restrictive eating plan in which you avoid solid food while following a detox program. You drink a homemade concoction of fresh-squeezed lemon juice, cayenne pepper, maple syrup and filtered water, going without solids for a minimum of 10 days, according to the Health News website. Since your body has gone without solids for a prolonged period, an ease-out diet is recommended. This portion of the diet allows you to slowly reintroduce solids back into your meals.
Step 1
Drink juice on the first day after the end of the diet. Choose orange juice or grapefruit juice. The MasterCleanse.org website recommends three 1-liter bottles of juice in which you add 2 tbsp. of maple syrup.
Step 2
Make shakes to consume on the second day as you ease out of the Master Cleanse diet. This lets you reintroduce fruits and vegetables back into your diet. Blend fruits and vegetables to make shakes that you can eat throughout the day. Broths are allowed on the second day as well.
Step 3
Eat whole fruits and vegetables three days following the end of the detox. You can have an unlimited amount, raw or cooked. No other solid foods should be introduced.
Step 4
Return to your normal diet on the fourth day. You should still eat lightly to avoid digestion issues, suggests the Health News site. Live foods, such as whole grains, should be incorporated into your diet as well.
Tips and Warnings
- For the first two weeks after the cleansing plan, continue to eat a mostly fruit- and vegetable-based diet. Limit meat and dairy products during this period.
- Do not follow the Master Cleanse without first checking with your doctor. The detox diet is very low in calories and might not be safe for anyone with medical problems.
