Miami provides abundant activities to keep your teen's mind and body fit. Whether your teen is an outdoors or indoors person, there are countless opportunities to get him engaged in healthy activities. Whether you are looking for an educational, physical, or amusing experience, Miami offers a memorable experience for any teen.

Nature Activities

A.D. Barnes Park combines education with outdoor activity. The park houses a public swimming pool along with the Sense of Wonder Nature Center and Trail. The trail is a great place for bird lovers to hike, especially during migration season. The Nature Center is home to a number of reptiles for your snake-loving teen. Dante Fascell Park is home to a large canal loaded with ducks for your teen to feed. There are plenty of outdoor activities in this park, including tennis to keep your teen engaged.

Sports Activities

If your teen is a basketball fan, take her to see a Miami Heat game at the American Airlines Arena. If college basketball appeals to your teen, then head over to the BankUnited Center to see the University of Miami's Hurricanes play. The BankUnited Center hosts a number of other sports events beside basketball, such as Showbol Miami, an indoor soccer tournament. Miami hosts such a diverse selection of sports, it makes it easy to get your teen involved in any number of events.

Educational Activities

ArtCenter South Florida offers art camps and classes to children and teens ages six through 16. Those over 16 have the option to take adult art classes, meaning that Mom and Dad have the chance to take a class with their teen. If your teen is an art lover, plan a trip to Bass Museum of Art. This museum contains examples of classic art, such as 16th century tapestries, and the modern styles of artists like Celia Cruz. There is no end to the number of educational activities available to get teens out into the community.

Fitness Activities

Atna's Fitness and Self-Defense teaches Kung Fu and Judo to children and adults of all ages. Atna's classes go beyond martial art techniques, teaching teens the value of healthy living and resolving conflicts without violence. For an unconventional approach to exercise, take your teen to the Coconut Grove Juggling Exchange at the University of Miami. Your teen can either participate in the activity or learn techniques on juggling anything from bowling pins to butcher knives.

Historical Activities

Exploring the past is a great way to get your teen out into the city for discovery. St. Bernard de Clairvaux is a 12th century Spanish monastery, taken apart and moved to Miami by William Randolph Hearst in 1925. The monastery was not put together again until 1964, after his death. If your teen is a history buff, they will enjoy the fascinating twists and turns of St. Bernard's past. Take your teen to Cauley Square Historic Village so that he can stroll down trails and explore the restored, turn of the century era village.
