What To Look For

Baseball pants are typically made from polyester or poly-cotton blends. Poly-cotton is often used for major league games because of its breathability, but polyester can often withstand rougher contact. You can choose to wear either knee-length pants or pants that come to the ankle. Ankle pants are recommended for those who slide often in order to prevent injury to the shin. Your pants should be reinforced with padding and double-layered around the knee and crotch to prevent them from ripping during sliding. Players who carry around their batting gloves will prefer pants with pockets.

Common Pitfalls

Ripping is the most common pitfall for baseball pants. Even the toughest pants can be susceptible to ripping if you often find yourself sliding. Extra padding can trap sweat inside, making the pants uncomfortable, so find pants that are lightly padded. Pants should not be so expensive that they cannot be replaced, or made of a material that cannot be repaired if ripped. Luckily, polyester can be repaired with a simple patch.

Where To Buy

You can buy baseball pants at any sporting good store or stores like Target, Wal-Mart and K-Mart. If you play baseball frequently, it is a good idea to purchase several pairs of baseball pants to make sure you'll have enough to last you through the season. Brand name apparel is typically available at sporting good stores, with non-name brand items at stores like Target.

Cost

Rawlings Youth White Baseball pants can go for as little as $10 at stores like Wal-Mart and Target and up to $65 for Under Armour men's baseball pants. Typically, baseball pants average about $20 to $30 for a good quality adult pair.
