Lipozene is a diet supplement marketed as a weight loss aid. The Obesity Research Institute, the maker of the supplement, claims that Lipozene helps users lose body fat without the need to exercise or change their diet. However, since Lipozene is a diet supplement, its product claims have not been verified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. As with any diet supplement, consult a health care professional before use.
Ingredient
Lipozene contains glucomannan, a vegetable fiber derived from a Japanese plant called the konjac root. Glucomannan works as a laxative to foster bulkier stools that can pass through the colon more easily, according to the University of Michigan Health System. The website, eMedTV reports that while research remains inconclusive, preliminary results support the use of glucomannan for obesity.
Dosage
Lipozene dosage varies depending on the individual needs of the user. For individuals seeking to lose large amounts of the weight, the recommended dosage is two capsules 30 minutes before a meal, threes times daily. Alternative doses include taking one or two capsules 30 minutes before a meal, twice daily. Lipozene capsules should be taken with a full glass of water. The maximum recommended dosage for Lipozene is six capsules per day, and the Obesity Research Institute recommends the maximum dosage to obtain the best results from product use.
Side Effects
According to eMedTV, common side effects associated with taking Lipozene include nausea, diarrhea, gas, a feeling of fullness, bloating and stomach pain. Since Lipozene is a fiber supplement, users can minimize these risks by gradually increasing their dosage of the supplement. Less frequently occurring side effects include severe or persistent diarrhea, changes in blood sugar, difficulty with swallowing the capsule and an allergic reaction.
Contraindications
Since Lipozene potentially lowers blood sugar, a doctor may recommend close monitoring of blood sugar levels in patients starting or stopping Lipozene. Further, Lipozene may interrupt the absorption of any oral medications that you take. Oral medications should be taken at least one hour before, or four hours following, taking Lipozene.
Warning
The Obesity Research Institute warns that pregnant and nursing mothers should not take Lipozene.
