While creating a weight loss plan, consider a short-term cranberry juice fast. The small, red cranberry fruit is native to North America and used in food, beauty, and health-care products. According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, cranberry fruits and leaves are a folkloric remedy for wound care, diarrhea, diabetes, stomach ailments, and liver problems. Cranberries have additional attributes that support weight loss.

Melting Fat

Researchers at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts discovered that tannins in cranberries can impair E. coli bacteria and thus prevent infection. E. coli bacteria is attributed to an array of health conditions including kidney infections, gastroenteritis and tooth decay.

Diuretic

Cranberry juice is a natural diuretic meaning it can help purge excess water weight, states LifeMojo.com. Short-term bloating commonly occurs during hormonal fluctuations and after excess salt consumption. Fluid retention can put undue strain on blood and lymphatic vessels, thereby leading to conditions such as high blood pressure and glaucoma. Cranberry juice dilutes urine and helps the kidney and bladder to release urine more frequently.
