A tennis ball machine shoots tennis balls across the court over the net to enable you to practice returns and different shots. Tennis ball machines typically have an open top that you pile tennis balls into. The balls feed into the machine and shoot out between two wheels. Machines generally have controls to determine the direction the ball will go and the speed it will travel. Units are often battery-powered and feature handles and wheels to transport around the court more easily.
Step 1
Unplug the tennis ball machine if it is not battery-powered and move it to an area away from the court. Wipe any dust or debris off the outside of the unit with a damp cloth. Remove dirt stuck on the sides with a soft bristled brush.
Step 2
Unscrew the housing of the tennis ball machine following the instructions in your owner's manual. Unscrew a base plate if present if it blocks access to the inside.
Step 3
Look inside the machine to determine the extent of the cleaning necessary. Brush off or vacuum tennis ball felt accumulated inside. Refer to your owner's manual to determine whether to clean the wheels that shoot the balls.
Step 4
Replace the housing, cover or base plate by setting it back in place and securing it in the reverse order to how you took it apart.
