Apples are a healthy fruit and a source of dietary fiber and vitamin C. According to MayoClinic.com, dietary fiber found in fruits has many health benefits, such as lowering your risk of heart disease and diabetes as well as preventing and relieving constipation. Values are based on one medium apple, 3 inches in diameter, with skin.

Basic Nutrition

One apple contains 95 calories, 25g of total carbohydrates and 4g of dietary fiber. Based on a 2,000-calorie-a-day diet, these measurements represent 8 percent of the recommended daily value, or DV, for carbohydrates and 17 percent for dietary fiber. Apples are also high in sugars, with 19g in one medium apple.

Calories

One medium apple contains 95 calories. Carbohydrates account for 90.4 calories, fat contributes 2.6 calories and protein provides the remaining 1.6 calories. One apple represents 5 percent of the daily recommended caloric intake.

Carbohydrates

An apple contains 25.1g of total carbohydrates, 8 percent of DV. Apples are a significant source of dietary fiber, with 4.4g, or 17 percent DV. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the peel contains most of the fiber, which helps maintain a healthy level of LDL cholesterol. Apples are high in sugar with 18.9g in one medium apple.

Vitamins

Apples are a source of vitamin C, with 8.4mg, or 14 percent DV. Almost 1/2 the vitamin C is just beneath the peel, so it is important to avoid peeling your apple before you eat it. Apples also contain vitamin K, with 4mcg, or 5 percent DV; vitamin B6, with 0.1mg, or 4 percent DV; and riboflavin, with 3 percent DV.

Minerals

Apples are rich source of potassium, with 195mg, or 6 percent DV. Apples also contain manganese, copper, phosphorus and magnesium. There is 6mcg of fluoride in one medium apple.

Fats

One apple only contains 0.4g of total fat. It also contains a small amount of heart-healthy fatty acids, such as 78.3mg of omega-6 and 16.4mg of omega-3.
