Minnesota is home to dozens of drug rehabilitation programs. Rehab Centers
Hazelden is a national network of substance abuse addiction treatment centers with branches in Center City, St. Paul and Plymouth. The Mayo Clinic provides addiction treatment in Rochester. The Meridian Network runs programs for men, women and incarcerated juveniles and adults at a number of locations throughout the Twin Cities. The New Visions Center of West Alexandria provides treatment for drug addiction and co-occurring mental disorders such as depression. The Fountain Centers are drug treatment facilities spread throughout Minnesota that are part of the larger Mayo Health System. The Retreat is a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Wayzata.
Programs
Hazelden addiction treatment centers provide programs for adults and teenagers with drug addiction and alcoholism. Other Hazelden programs include substance abuse prevention and family programs. Hazelden treatment and living facilities are divided by gender, and further by age. Young addicts aged 14 to 25 live in different facilities than patients aged 25 and older. The Retreat offers 30-day, in-house, evening and family programs for those suffering with drug addiction, as well as weekend retreats. Alcoholics and drug addicts live side-by-side in The Retreat's central facility, where all residents undergo the 12-step Alcoholics Anonymous recovery program. The Mayo Clinic offers individualized treatment plans, intensive residential, continuing care, adolescent intervention and outpatient addiction programs. Mayo Clinic residential programs are for both men and women, aged 18 and up, and provide each patient with a private room and bathroom. Meridian has outpatient and inpatient care, including a special center for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
Residential Care
Residential care programs for drug rehabilitation are those through which the patients of a facility live together and are overseen 24 hours a day by staff. The majority of the residential programs in Minnesota recognize the need for psychiatric care during the rehabilitation process, stressing that addiction most often co-occurs alongside mental disorders such as depression, anxiety disorder, or post-traumatic stress disorder. Participants of residential care programs in Minnesota form relationships of communal support with other program participants, while undergoing psychiatric and social programs that will help them curb addiction. Treatment centers with residential programs include the Mayo Clinic, Hazelden, The Retreat and Meridian.
Outpatient Care
Outpatient care programs are those which patients of drug rehabilitation centers attend for evening or morning sessions on a daily or weekly basis to overcome problems with alcohol or drug addiction. The outpatient care programs at Minnesota's drug rehab centers are designed for flexibility, so that participants needn't disrupt their daily routines while participating. Outpatient programs are based around community support and the twelve-step alcoholism recovery program, and include individual counseling and family sessions. The Mayo Clinic, The Retreat and the New Visions Center provide outpatient care.
Facilities & Staff
The Hazelden, Mayo Clinic, Meridian programs and Fountain Centers all have trained psychiatric staff with specialty training in substance abuse and addiction, as well as full nursing staffs. Facilities at Meridian programs include a methadone clinic and detox monitoring center. The Mayo Clinic rehabilitation programs are located on the Saint Mary's Hospital campus, and offer patients full access to the benefits of the hospital. At the New Visions Center, patients will find doctors, counselors and special facilities for buprenorphine-assisted withdrawal. Buprenorphine is an opioid used to assist patients suffering withdrawal from opiate drugs like heroin and narcotic pain medications like hydrocodone.
