According to Kids Health, a cavity develops when a tooth beings to decay. The cavity in the tooth will continuously grow deeper and it will cause pain in the mouth. For the short term, there are several inexpensive and easy home remedies available to treat toothache caused by a cavity. Consult your dentist to treat the cavity.
Garlic
According to the book "Jude's Herbal Home Remedies" by Jude C. Todd, garlic can be used to treat toothaches and cavities due to its antiseptic properties. Jude recommends taking a clove of garlic and placing it in the area of the cavity and biting down on it to hold it in the center of the cavity. Do this for about five minutes. After removing the garlic, wash out your mouth with warm water to remove any excess bacteria remaining.
Tea
In the book "Prescriptions for Herbal Healing," author Phyllis A. Balch explains that tea can be used to help treat toothaches. According to Balch, warm tea will help remove bacteria in the mouth and will also help to relieve the pain. Also, a warm tea bag can be placed on the gum line of an aching tooth, which helps to stop inflammation.
Ice
According to a 2007 issue of "Natural Health" magazine, ice applications can be used to reduce the pain and swelling caused by a cavity. Apply an ice pack or ice wrapped in a cloth to the affected area and allow it to sit for about five to 10 minutes. Remove the cold ice. Do this around twice a day. If conditions worsen, see a dentist.
