Finding low or no calorie foods is as simple as going to the local grocery store. Choosing these foods maintains a healthy body and can be incorporated into meals and snacks. According to MayoClinic.com, eating low calorie foods allows a person to eat enough volume to stay full longer. In addition, many foods are available in lower calorie versions, which lets people eat what they enjoy without sabotaging healthy habits or weight loss goals.

Grapes

A serving of grapes equals one cup and contains only about 100 calories. MayoClinic.com reports that grapes are a good choice when trying to control weight because they provide a low amount of calories in a sizable portion. Grapes make a healthy snack or addition to a salad or wrap at mealtime. MyPyramid.gov recommends eating 2 cups of fruit daily.

Salad

A salad composed of fruits and vegetables provides nutrients while being low calorie. According to MayoClinic.com, a salad made from 10 cups of spinach, 1 apple and 1 1/2 cups of strawberries contains the same amount of calories as a small order of french fries at a fast food restaurant. Most fruits and vegetables fit the low calorie bill and combining them in different ways creates new tastes to keep a person from becoming bored with eating healthy fare. A salad makes a good appetizer and can help prevent over eating when a meal is ready.

Soup

Not all soups are created equal, so care must be taken to analyze the ingredients to be sure a low calorie option is being chosen. Soups to avoid include those made with milk or cream, such as bisque or cream of vegetable soups. Broth-based soups are generally low in calories and fill up the stomach without filling out the waistline. Soup can ease hunger within a reasonable calorie range as long as the right soup is chosen. Making soup at home allows more control over what goes into the pot, thereby keeping calorie count down.

Popcorn

Popcorn is another food that allows you to eat a large amount for a small number of calories. MayoClinic.com reports that 3 1/2 cups of air popped popcorn only contains about 100 calories. This makes it a good snack that can be eaten on the run. However, popcorn that is covered in butter or other artificial flavorings, such as caramel or cheese, doesn't provide the same low calorie benefits as the air popped version.
