Florida Health Care Plans, or FHCP, has provided health care benefits since 1974. People who live or work in Flagler and Volusia counties can apply. Whether you go to the doctor frequently or once a year, FHCP offers a variety of plans with low monthly premiums, high deductibles, prescription coverage and vision riders.

Group Health Plans

FHCP offers an HMO plan, balance plans and high-deductible plans for groups with two or more people. The group HMO plan has a network of more than 550 providers and facilities. You have access to preventive care and wellness. The HMO plans do not require claim forms or additional paperwork. Members pay a fixed premium every month. The plans come with prescription drug coverage. Co-pays for a visit to a primary care physician start at $10, as of September 2010. The balance plan offers fixed co-pay visits and optional deductible amounts. The high-deductible plan requires has a lower monthly premium.

Medicare

Since 1981, the FHCP has provided prescription and medical coverage to Medicare-eligible recipients. You have three different options: Medvantage Plan, Medvantage RX Plan and Medvantage Rx Plus Plan. Some of the benefits include a $10 co-pay per visit to your primary care physician, $35 per visit to a specialist, inpatient hospital care and outpatient hospital care, as of September 2010. If you need prescription coverage, you might opt for the Medvantage Rx Plan, which has a similar prescription drug benefit to the standard Medicare Part D benefit.

Children's Programs

Florida Health Care Plan was the first health care system for the Florida Healthy Kids Program. Your child must be without coverage, not on Medicaid, a citizen and between the ages of 5 and 18 to apply. You must select a primary care physician to manage your child's care.

Open Access Rider

You can add the Open Access Rider to the HMO, balance or high-deductible plans. The rider allows you to receive fixed co-pays for services in-network. You can refer yourself to a provider out of the FHCP network or stay in-network.

Optional Benefits

If you opt for a Florida Health Care Plan, you can add vision and dental benefits to your plan. You can receive routine eye exams from an in-network optometrist. With the dental plan, you receive a routine dental exam every six months and discounted fees for other dental services.
