Fruit and vegetables should be a part of every healthy diet, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. According to the USDA's food pyramid, the average adult should consume at least 2 ½ cups of vegetables and 2 cups of fruit each day. Getting those foods incorporated into your diet regularly takes some persistence and creativity.

Step 1

Buy pre-washed salads from the grocery store to save time and effort when you need a quick serving of vegetables. Many salads come with a variety of vegetables already in the bag, meaning you can get two servings in one.

Step 2

Transform your favorite foods --- like pizza --- into vegetable- and fruit-filled creations by adding extra toppings. A serving of pineapple on a Canadian bacon pizza all of a sudden becomes a Hawaiian pizza, and you've just gotten a serving of fruit in your daily diet. Go for a vegetarian pizza rather than the meat lover's every now and then.

Step 3

Purchase pre-cut and washed vegetables and fruit for when you're on the go and don't have time cut them yourself. Pack fruits and vegetables away in plastic containers or sandwich bag and store them in the fridge so you can access them easily on your way out the door.

Step 4

Substitute a meal at least once a week with a salad full of fruits and vegetables. Visit the salad bar at the restaurant instead of ordering the steak.

Step 5

Puree vegetables and add them to your soup or pasta sauce. You'll probably not notice them.
