BuSpar is a medication in a class of drugs known as anti-anxiety medications. Drowsiness
Children taking BuSpar may experience drowsiness. This side effect may lessen over time as the body has a chance to adjust to daily treatment with BuSpar. Ensuring an adequate night's sleep and encouraging a midday nap may help alleviate daytime drowsiness and fatigue. Severe drowsiness in a child should be brought to the attention of a physician. A change in dosage or medication may be recommended.
Nausea
Nausea may occur in children taking BuSpar. This can lead to a change in appetite. Taking BuSpar with food every time may help to lessen nausea. Eating a diet of bland foods and having smaller meals more frequently can help to decrease this effect. Dizziness and Lightheadedness
Children may experience dizziness and lightheadedness while taking BuSpar. Taking BuSpar with other medications may increase these side effects and should be discussed with a physician. According to Drugs.com, patients who develop memory problems; new or worsening mental, mood, or personality alteration; seizures; suicidal thoughts or actions; unusual restlessness; or changes in vision, may be having a severe reaction to BuSpar and should seek immediate medical attention.
Dry Mouth
Dry mouth can occur while taking BuSpar. Children should maintain compliance with daily oral hygiene as recommended by their dentist. Dry mouth may be relieved by mouth wash and the use of gum or mints. Drinking ample water throughout the day can help prevent dehydration and help lessen dry mouth symptoms.
Blurred Vision
Some children may develop blurred vision while taking BuSpar. This side effect should be reported to a physician as it may lead to difficulties with learning and child safety.
