Facial marks can be unsightly and make you feel self-conscious about your appearance. Marks can include things like birth marks, age spots, acne scars or hyperpigmentation. Thankfully, treatment for many of these conditions is the same, allowing you to target many of your facial imperfections all at once. With diligence and attention to your skin-care habits, you can get rid of facial marks.

Step 1

Cleanse your face twice a day to remove dirt, oil and other impurities. Use a gentle cleanser so as to not irritate your skin, cause blemishes or make your scars and marks look worse. Always rinse your face well and pat your skin dry with a towel afterward.

Step 2

Exfoliate your skin at least once a day with a toner. Pour a small amount of toner onto a cotton pad before wiping your face with it. This will remove more dirt, more oil and dead skin cells so your pores won't get clogged. Likewise, the removal of dead skin cells helps marks fade faster.

Step 3

Get a prescription from your dermatologist for tretinoin cream and apply it to your facial marks each evening. Just dab a small amount on each mark and rub it in well. This will fade dark pigmentation and promote a more even skin tone with regular treatment.

Step 4

Purchase a bleaching cream like hydroquinone and apply it to your facial marks. Over-the-counter hydroquinone is available in .5 to 2 percent strength. Apply only a small amount to your marks each day to help dark pigmentation fade. Excessive use or use of a stronger version of this cream could lead to permanent pigmentation removal.

Step 5

See your dermatologist to have a chemical peel done with glycolic acid, lactic acid or phenols. When your skin is clean, the acid is applied to the area to be treated. This may sting a little. After a given period of time, the peel is removed. Your skin will be irritated for several days after treatment. You will need several sessions to get rid of your facial marks.
