Sagging breasts in men have several causes, including aging, weight gain and a condition known as gynecomastia. Cosmetic concern is a common issue with increased male breast size, but the condition can be treated by determining the cause of your breast enlargement and treating the underlying condition.
Step 1
Exercise regularly to strengthen the underlying pectoral muscles. As fat accumulates in the chest area, male breasts start to sag as muscle loss is also evident. Bench presses and push-ups build the pectoral muscles and burn excess fat deposits.
Step 2
Take prescription medications provided by your physician to block excess estrogen production. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, these medications inhibit estrogenic effects on the male body. This treatment is used in severe cases after careful testing to ensure that estrogen is the culprit.
Step 3
Avoid recreational drugs and steroid use, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. These drugs inhibit androgen production, decreasing a man's natural testosterone production. In turn, the breasts swell and start to sag, sometimes becoming painful.
Step 4
Speak with your physician about any medication you may be taking, especially if you are taking spironolactone for heart failure. According to the PubMed website, spironolactone has shown increase in breast development in men. In a 1999 study, breast growth was noted as one of the medications adverse reactions in males receiving the drug.
