Acne is a condition of the skin that is most often associated with your face; however, it can also occur on your backside due to excessive oil production and sweating. Treating acne on your buttocks does not require a special product, but rather general care to cleanse the skin and remove excess oil, bacteria and dead skin cells.

Step 1

Cleanse your buttocks with a gentle cleanser, using your fingertips to work the cleanser into a lather, suggests AcneNet. Do not scrub the skin as this can worsen acne. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean towel. Do not rub dry, as this irritates the buttocks' sensitive skin. Repeat cleansing one to two times daily and after you perspire.

Step 2

Apply an over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide lotion to your buttocks to remove excess oil and bacteria from your pores. According to KidsHealth.org, lotions containing salicylic acid are also helpful. Apply the lotion to your buttocks before bed to allow it to be absorbed into your skin while you sleep.

Step 3

Avoid touching your buttocks, as this can transfer oil from your fingers to your acne. The only time that your hands should touch your acne-prone skin is when you are cleansing it. KidsHealth.org advises abstaining from squeezing or picking at blemishes as well.

Step 4

Wear loose-fitting clothes to allow your skin to breathe. Tighter clothes trap sweat, encouraging increased acne breakouts. Avoid tight jeans, leather or spandex bottoms and opt for looser, lighter fabrics such as cotton.

Things You'll Need

  • Gentle cleanser
  • Clean towel
  • Benzoyl peroxide lotion
  • Loose-fitting clothing
