Digestive problems such as the repeated occurrence of excess stomach acid are troublesome for a lot of people. Both pharmaceutical drugs obtained via prescription and natural products sold over-the-counter are readily available. Although it is always advisable to discuss any digestion-related problems with your doctor whenever possible, one naturally derived herbal extract may be helpful for some sufferers.

Step 1

Take a ginger dietary supplement. These are usually sold in vegetable capsule form through health stores and online retailers. Take the supplement every day if it's necessary to do so, or take it when required. MedlinePlus states that oleoresin, a compound in ginger, is often contained in antacids.

Step 2

Eat ginger-based foods. Gingersnap biscuits, ginger cakes and chunks of pure crystallized ginger are all good sources of this plant.

Step 3

Drink a strong cup of ginger tea. Use this tea to prevent acid reflux or to treat it when it strikes. This tea can be purchased from health food stores and online.

Tips and Warnings

  • Avoid acidic and spicy foods and beverages. If eating such food is unavoidable, drink a full glass of milk with it --- milk's rich calcium content can neutralize excess stomach acid. Relax whenever possible to do so. Take time each day to simply do something you really enjoy and attempt to forget about your worries for a while. According to Dr. Raymond Cross of the University of Maryland Medical Center, stress can have a major impact on digestive health.
  • Contrary to popular belief, most commercially available ginger ale does not contain actual ginger extract, but rather artificial ginger flavoring.
