Vitamin D is produced by the body when the skin is exposed to the sun and is stored in the body's fat tissues, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. It is also available in some fortified foods, such as dairy products, as well as in supplement form. Vitamin D helps support proper bone health and may help regulate the body's immune response. However, excessive amounts of vitamin D may be toxic. Some medical researchers believe that daily doses of 2000 IU or more may produce symptoms of toxicity; however, there is currently no medical consensus regarding unsafe dosage levels. Consult your doctor if you notice any of the symptoms of vitamin D toxicity.

Stomach Problems

According to MayoClinic.com, stomach problems are common symptoms of vitamin D toxicity. Stomach problems may include loss of appetite, vomiting and nausea.

Elimination problems are also common among people with vitamin D toxicity, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. People who have taken toxic levels of this vitamin often experience constipation, frequent urination and diarrhea.

Other Signs and Symptoms

There are a variety of other symptoms and signs associated with vitamin D toxicity. Too much of this vitamin may contribute to the formation of kidney stones, and may also impair mental focus and cause arrhythmia, according to MayoClinic.com. Itching, muscle weakness, fatigue, weight loss and excessive thirst may also be signs of vitamin D toxicity, notes the University of Maryland Medical Center.
