Natural Ways to Stop Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating is a phenomenon that occurs in people because of a number of different reasons. Some serious illnesses, such as cancer, tuberculosis, stroke, Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's disease, lymphoma, leukemia and hyperthyroidism, produce sweating as a symptom of the condition. However, there are ordinary factors that contribute to this condition that are non-lethal, that can possibly be regulated through a common sense approach and corrective steps to avoid the triggers that produce this effect.

Clothing

Wear cotton fabric with fibers that allow your skin to breath and in turn wick perspiration away from the body, allowing the skin to remain dry. Dress in layers and make sure that all of the clothing you wear is temperature appropriate for both the season and the planned activity.

Eating

Spicy foods, such as hot peppers, garlic and Tabasco sauce, can cause the body to sweat, as can alcohol. Take notice of the foods that you eat prior to an episode of excessive sweating and avoid those triggers. Keep a food journal so that you may be able to pinpoint which foods you need to avoid. This will help stop the onset of a sweating episode.

Drinking

Water is a way to regulate your body temperature. Drink at least eight 8 oz. glasses each day to keep your body hydrated. Add ice cubes to help the process of cooling you down.

Medications

Make sure that the cause of your excessive sweating is not a side effect of any medication that you are taking. Review prescription side effects on the documentation that came with the prescription and if it lists sweating, then consult your physician regarding an alternate medication.

Nighttime

Prepare for bed by taking a cool shower and then wearing light nightwear to bed. Have the ability to remove layers of bed clothing if sweating begins. Use a fan or air conditioning unit to cool the room off prior to retiring for the night.

Sunshine

Avoid bright sunshine on hot days and try to remain cool in the shade, as much as possible. Activities, such as sunbathing or visiting tanning salons, should be avoided to keep your body away from obvious heat triggers. Saunas are another thing to consider avoiding.

Exercise

Daily aerobics like playing basketball, jogging, riding a bicycle or taking a brisk walk increases your endorphin level, which in turn burns fat and helps the body to normalize your internal body furnace.
