Tofu is not a magical food that will make your body burn more calories. However, it is low in calories and can replace higher calories foods. Tofu is made from coagulated soybeans. You have probably heard tofu referred to by some as bland and boring, while others state it is an amazingly versatile health food that can take on the flavor of whatever you would like. If you do not know how to prepare tofu, it will probably taste bland when eaten plain. However, learn to prepare tofu well, and using tofu in food dishes can lower your daily calorie intake.
Lose Weight with Tofu
Step 1
Research tofu recipes. Reading about the wide range of recipes tofu may be used in will give you a base of knowledge about tofu and its uses.
Step 2
Choose a simple tofu recipe to begin with. Avoid recipes that involve marinating and baking or frying tofu at this point unless you are an experienced cook. Find a recipe where tofu is simply added to a blender or food processor from its original state. Examples of simple tofu recipes include smoothies, cream pies or baked goods.
Step 3
Challenge your tofu cooking skills. After completing a few simple recipes, try recipes that are more challenging such as recipes that involve marinating tofu in a spice mixture, baking tofu or frying tofu.
Step 4
Identify dishes you commonly eat that are high in calories. In order to lose weight by eating tofu, you will need to replace some of these high calorie foods with tofu substitutes.
Step 5
Analyze your list of high calorie foods and determine if there are any that may be prepared differently with tofu to lower the calorie density. For example, hamburgers may be replaced with veggie burgers made with tofu, tofu may be used in baked goods in place of dairy products to lower calorie content and tofu may also be used in place of meat in most dishes.
Step 6
Use tofu in several of your high calorie food dishes. If done daily, this could lower your daily calorie consumption by a few hundred calories. Once you have reached an accumulated calorie deficit of 3,500 calories, you will lose a pound of weight.
