A myriad of products attempt to sell you with promises of healthy looking hair and every hair upgrade you can imagine. While some of these products may come through on providing the appearance of healthy hair, few actually reinforce your hair's health. In fact, many products can actually strip your hair of necessary nutrients in exchange for a temporary benefit to its looks. Similarly, nothing can encourage fast hair growth quite like proper hair care and nutrition. If you want to grow long, healthy hair quickly, you need to do several things to take care of your hair.

Step 1

Trim split ends. Eliminating split ends helps prevent your hair from further damage, which could force a more exaggerated hair cut than you would prefer. A good trim also puts your hair in good shape to grow longer, which can help you reach the length you want faster.

Step 2

Wash your hair every two or three days instead of every day, and apply conditioner immediately after shampooing. Shampoo often strips your hair of the moisture and nutrients that are vital to its health. Conditioning the hair can restore some of these nutrients while providing a thin protective cover over the individual strands of hair. This can help the hair strands regroup after a cleansing and maintain their health, rather than getting progressively more brittle as they age.

Step 3

Infuse your diet with nutrients that are used to promote hair growth and hair health. Hair follicles are primarily protein, so it is important to get good amounts of protein through your diet. According to DailyGlow.com, some excellent foods that contribute to hair health and growth include fish, beans, eggs, nuts, seeds, yogurt, apples, grapes, spinach, broccoli, berries, green beans and cauliflower. Reader's Digest also recommends taking a 250 mg supplement daily of either borage oil, evening primrose oil or flax seed oil.

Step 4

Get plenty of rest. Being well-rested and sleeping enough at night are both important to your hair growth, not to mention virtually all other processes ongoing on your body. Resting at night will also reduce your body's stress levels, reducing the risk of hair loss or inadequate hair growth.

Step 5

Exercise at least three to four times each week. According to DailyGlow.com, exercise can improve circulation to the scalp, which may lead to faster hair growth.
