Lisbon, Ohio, is a small town with rolling hills and a lush seasonal landscape located in a rural area that borders western Pennsylvania. Both states share a river that meanders through the area and also provides the basis for various recreational activities including hiking, fishing and camping. Nearby Guilford Lake is also a spot for camping.
Open and Grassy
A 90-site camping area in Lisbon is the Vagabond Family Campground and RV Park. It includes a large grassy area with a swimming pool also open to the general public. The camping season and park access runs from May 1 until the end of October. Fishing enthusiasts and campers as well as clubs are welcome, according to Camping-USA.
Scenic Area
In neighboring East Liverpool, Ohio, there is a camping haven at Beaver Creek State Park. The campground is open all year and has more than 100 sites, but only six offer electricity. Equestrians are encouraged to camp and use the horse trails and tie-ups for a more rustic and primitive experience. Other high points of the park include 2,722 acres of park scenery and the Little Beaver Creek River. In addition, a wildlife preserve with more than 2,000 acres is next door as well as a the nearby pioneer village Gaston's Mills.
Outdoor Activities
Boating, fishing and hiking are accessible in the Little Beaver Creek area of Lisbon. The state park offers canoe and rubber rafting trips with challenging currents, and the scenery is a draw. In addition, for those with a current Ohio fishing license, river fishing provides the opportunity to catch small-mouth and rock bass. Seven hiking trails include fitness and nature expeditions.
Natural Lakes
Another camping favorite near Lisbon, Ohio, is the Guilford Lake State Park about 15 minutes away. According to State Parks, this park is "a quiet fishing lake located in northeastern Ohio on the west fork of the Little Beaver Creek." The gently undulating landscape is home to a variety of birds and wildlife including red-winged blackbirds, song sparrows, red fox and white-tailed deer. In fact, the half-mile hiking trail around the lake shore is designed for observing these local natural critters while you exercise.
Fishing and Hunting
The Guilford Lake Park also provides recreational fishing and hunting opportunities as long as campers have the appropriate Ohio fishing and hunting licenses. In addition to good catches of bass, the lake offers bluegill, crappie and channel catfish. An interesting feature is that ice fishing is permitted in the winter. For those who enjoy hunting, certain designated places allow various types of hunting.
