Acne pimples don't just affect teenagers. Adults can continue to get occasional blemishes, making them one of the most common maladies seen by dermatologists. Most people know the distress of waking up with a fresh pimple on the day of an important event, whether it's class pictures or a date with your longtime crush. One common mistake is to scrub the skin with harsh cleansers or rough sponges. You can treat your skin gently and still clear up your pimples.

Step 1

Wash your face daily with a gentle cleanser containing salicylic acid to help dry up excess oil and clear existing blemishes.

Step 2

Wash your makeup applicators regularly with antibacterial soap.

Step 3

Keep your hands and hair off your face. Change your pillowcases frequently, and wipe down your phone with a cotton ball moistened with astringent or rubbing alcohol.

Step 4

Resist the urge to squeeze pimples, which can make them last longer and spread bacteria to other areas of the face. Picking can also lead to scarring.

Step 5

Crush plain uncoated aspirin and add just enough water to make a paste. Dot the mixture on emerging pimples as a spot treatment. If it irritates your skin, add a drop of honey, a natural antiseptic and moisturizer.

Things You'll Need

  • Salicylic acid cleanser
  • Uncoated aspirin
  • Antibacterial soap
