San Jose, California has a plethora of natural beauty located within the city limits. Explore that beauty while you go outside for some exercise. More structured activities are available as well, and maybe you can even train for an intense swimming competition in your free time.

Swimming

Train for a triathlon or regular swimming at the Almaden Lake Park located Almaden Expressway and Coleman, or go for a dive at the Camden Pool. You can go for some laps at the Fair Swim Center. If you have a child, take another adult and you can take turns in the lap pool, while the other goes to the kiddie pool with the child. For a smaller, less crowded pool, head over to the Biebrach pool at the intersection of West Virginia and Delmas Avenue, which goes to five feet deep and can hold up to 100 people.

Dog Parks

Enjoy a relaxing stroll or a fast paced run with your canine friend at one of the area's 13 dog parks. Children must be accompanied, so you do not have to worry about kids running around unsupervised while you are trying to get some exercise. For an off-leash location, visit Hellyer County Park in south San Jose. Delmas Dog Park at the corner of Park Avenue and Delmas Avenue, has a fountain, drinking bowls, mutt mitts, plastic mitts which are used to clean up dogs' waste products, and more.

Golf

Enjoy a few rounds of golf at golf courses within city limits: San Jose Municipal, Los Lagos or Rancho del Pueblo. All of them have lighted driving ranges as well. If you seek a more casual game, try the nine holes at Rancho. More competitive types will enjoy the 18 holes, par 72 course at San Jose, as well as the 18 holes, par 68 course at Los Lagos.

Sports

Scores of different sporting possibilities exist for the over 18 crowd. Check out the adult men's basketball league, which has both competitive and recreational levels. If you are over 50, check out the line dancing classes at beginner, intermediate and social levels. Power Soccer is available for virtually anyone living in San Jose. The only requirement is that you must be between five and 99 years old. Consider taking power pilates or power sculpt to strengthen up at the Camden Community Center or Almaden Community Center.

Hiking

Go for a hike through the area. For a short journey, try the Morses Gulch Trail at Stinson Beach, which is a one mile hike to a waterfall at the end. If you are seeking a slightly more difficult journey, check out the Tilden Wildcat Gorge in the East Bay area. You will have a 3.5 mile round trip, and go up about 1,000 feet. On the remote Ohlone Wilderness Trail in the Easy Bay National Park District, you will pass watersheds and wildlife during your 5.5 mile adventure.
