Home ownership is a dream for many people. It is also a huge responsibility; a mortgage may sometimes seem overwhelming. For many people, obtaining a mortgage is the first time they have truly made plans set in stone for the next 15 to 30 years of their lives. A mortgage is a typical rite of passage for adults. It may seem a terrifying process in the beginning; that fear usually wanes as the years pass.

Educate Yourself about Mortgages

Continue ongoing learning about mortgages throughout the time when you have a mortgage. Read financial magazines with information about the types of mortgages, go to seminars about home ownership and mortgages, and research topics related to mortgages on banking websites and real estate investment websites,

Reach Out for Help

If mortgage stress becomes overwhelming, reach out for help to a doctor, psychologist, crisis hotline, a church, financial adviser, friends or your parents. Do not allow stress to make you feel alone and hopeless. Other people have much wisdom and comfort to offer. Reach out for help to get advice and solace as you handle stress related to a mortgage. Show Gratitude Every Day

Be proactive to show gratitude for home ownership every day. Remembering to show gratitude helps to reduce the stress of having a mortgage. So, keep a gratitude journal about everything that makes the house special and about special events held at the house. Or go for a gratitude walk about the house and the yard each day to really look at the beauty of the home and land. Gratitude is a very healing emotion. It helps reduce stress and it helps the mind feel optimistic and positive emotions.

Grow a Long-Term Garden

A beautiful flower garden and trees add to the value of a home. Gardening is also a very therapeutic activity during times of stress. Work off stress about the mortgage by planting some perennial flowers. They will be a long-term investment, as they bloom each year and add wonderful color to a yard. Some cheerful flowers sure to brighten moods and relieve stress include: daisies, hyacinth, iris, purple coneflower, and bee balm. Trees that have flowers such as magnolia and lilac also add serentity and beauty to a yard. A garden will provide a sense of the future to a yard and home. As trees grow and gardens fill in, the home becomes a personal retreat with a nature preserve for walks outside to release stress.

Get Advice from Elders

Elder people in the family and in the community have weathered all kinds of financial ups and downs as the world has evolved during their lifetimes. They are an amazing font of information and comfort during times when home ownership and the mortgage seem overwhelming. Seek advice from people who have seen it all during decades of life experiences. Talk to people who have been through the mortgage process as home owners and property investers. Get advice and kind words from elders who have the ability to calm the jangled nerves ofthe younger generation.

Exercise

Excercise is a tremendous stress relief tool. With regular exercise the body works better, sleeps more deeply, and handles stress more easily. Condition your body with regular exercise to stay calm during times of crisis. Aim for at least thirty minutes of exercise about three times a week. When experiencing morgage stress, find time to exercise and let the body release the emotions and toxins of stress.

Show Your Love

During times of stress, it is very important to remember to make love a priority in your life. Showing love to a spouse, to children in the family, and to parents, significant others, partners and friends is very helpful in reducing stress. Saying "I love you" reminds people that they are valued. These words also create a strong bond among people that comforts them and helps them endure stress.
