Vitamin E is found naturally in foods, and used as a supplement and topical oil. The National Institute of Health explains that vitamin E provides protection because of its function as an antioxidant and its roles in the anti-inflammatory processes, inhibition of platelet aggregation, and immune system enhancement. However any uses of vitamin E and vitamin E oil should be discussed with your family physician.

Heal Cold Sores

Vitamin E oil can be used as topically as a lip moisturizer; the oil acts as a lubricant for dry, chapped lips. In addition, vitamin E oil, with its antioxidant properties, can help heal a cold sore. Apply a small amount to the infected area once or twice a day for maximum results.

Fight Free Radicals

When vitamin E oil is taken as a supplement, it can fight free radicals and help prevent heart disease and cancer. The National Institute of Health explains that free radicals are molecules produced when your body breaks down food, or by environmental exposures like tobacco smoke and radiation. Antioxidants, like vitamin E oil, fight free radicals when taken on a regular basis. Be sure to discuss supplements with your doctor to figure out a proper amount based on your individual needs.

Aid with Sunburn

Vitamin E oil can soothe a minor sunburn from overexposure to sun rays when applied directly to the skin. Its moisturizing properties also help reduce the damage to skin exposed to the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. Apply vitamin E oil directly onto sunburned areas up to twice a day until the skin is healed and no longer peeling.

Heal Scars and Stretch Marks

The properties of vitamin E oil can also reduce and fade scars and stretch marks, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. The UMMC notes that between 400-800 IU is recommended for healing, which can be directly applied to the scarred area. The best time to apply the oil is after a bath or shower when the skin is soft and the oil can be easily absorbed.
