According to the Micronutrient Information Center at Oregon State University you have more calcium in your body than any other mineral. Over 90 percent of calcium is in your bones and teeth, the remaining calcium is in your soft tissue and blood. Phosphorus helps make up your bone in the form of a calcium phosphate salt. Phosphorus is a major structural component of your cell membranes as well. All energy storage and production in your body are dependent on phosphorus compounds. Oregon State University explains, "Nucleic acids DNA and RNA, which are responsible for the storage and transmission of genetic information, are long chains of phosphate-containing molecules."
Fish
Oregon State University reports that the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine recommends the adequate intake for calcium is 1,200 mg per day for adult males and females. The United States recommended dietary allowance for phosphorus is 700 mg each day for adult males and females. You can obtain both minerals from many fish. Fish that are rich in both calcium and phosphorus include herring, cod, anchovies, catfish, caviar, pollock and tuna. Sardines are highly concentrated with both minerals containing 382 mg of calcium and 490 mg of phosphorus per serving.
Leafy Greens
Oregon State University explains, phosphorus activates multiple hormones, enzymes and cell-signaling in your body. Phosphorus also supports a normal acid-base balance in your body by acting as a buffer. You can provide your body with phosphorus and calcium through leafy greens such as kale, Chinese broccoli, cabbage, spinach and bok choy. Amaranth leaves contain 276 mg of phosphorus and 95 mg of calcium per serving.
Dairy
Dairy is an excellent source of both calcium and phosphorus. A cup of cow's milk provides your body with 276 mg of calcium and 205 mg of phosphorus. Other dairy products that contain calcium and phosphorus include cottage cheese, yogurt, cream cheese, goat cheese, goat milk and heavy cream. Cheddar cheese is a rich source of both minerals containing 579 mg of phosphorus and 815 mg of calcium.
